I searched on amazon.co.uk Harry Potter and the deathly hallows part 2 as this is an example of a fantasy film which is part of an 8 part franchise. I then scrolled down to see what other films people viewed. A range of films came up such as Harry potter part 1 and other fantasy films including Pirates of the Caribbean which is a 12 certificate action/adventure fantasy film. Two 15 rated films came up including The Inbetweeners Movie which is a comedy and Bridesmaids which is a romantic comedy film. Another film was the lion king which is an adventure animated comedy certified a U. Rise of the Planet of the Apes and X-Men First Class also came up and is both rated 12 and are a combination of Action, Adventure, Drama and Sci-Fi. This concludes a wide range of genres and certificates of films which have been viewed from audiences that enjoy Harry Potter, this shows this particular fantasy film to be aimed at a wide range of target audience ages.

Again I searched on Amazon another film; The Golden Compass which is rated a PG and a family, adventure fantasy film. Films related to the Golden Compass include, The Lion Witch And The Wardrobe three part franchise which is also rated a PG. Inkheart, City of Ember, The Water Horse are also family, adventure fantasy films and rated a PG. The Secret Of Moonacre is of the same genre but certified at a U. This concludes the overlap of sub-genres and that the target audience is aimed at children under the age of 12.

We asked 12 people aged 13-50 a survey to find out their opinions and views of the fantasy genre.

Here are the results to the questionnaire:

To make a more even survey to discover what our target audiences opinions we should of asked 6 males and 6 females.

For The majority of people that we asked were our age, so to get a wider range of responses we should have sent the survey to a variety of people different ages. Although 5 out of 12 were 16 we did get responses from ages 13 through to 50.

This question concludes that the audience we have chosen (which may be difficult to cater for seeing as it is a wide range of different ages and preferences) do like fantasy films.

The most favoured fantasy film was the 8 part film franchise; Harry Potter.  5 peoples favourite was Harry Potter and 2 peoples favourite was the 5 part film franchise Twilight. Both of these film franchises include mystical creatures and are set in the modern day, therefore categorised as a contemporary fantasy.

The majority of people want to see magic, or fantasy/parallel worlds. The results from the target audience feel that these two are the most important.

Influences to see a film is important as it shows why an audience would see a film. In this case their main influence is trailers. To conclude this shows that a good storyline, editing and camera work skills are important to include in a film.

6 people feel that an interesting plot  is important so we will try to include this so that the film will suit the target audience. Special effects would be difficult to include but for fantasy film to include that 'fantasy' element i feel that special effects are important. Good acting will make the film feel and look more professional therefore also and important factor.

We felt that by asking our target audience what they thought main characters should be introduced would help us to create a film that would suit the audience. No preference to whether the main characters should be introduced was answered by over half, this concludes that they don't have an opinion the whether a main character should be introduced at the beginning of the film.

This question concludes whether they actually enjoy fantasy films, the percentage of people who said no surprised me as i thought more people would enjoy fantasy films.

Do you believe fantasy films target the younger/teenaged audience? Please Explain:
Here is the wide range of responses from ages ranging from 13-50

AGREED:
-Yes, more imagination
-Younger, they are more interested in pretend things rather than adults who prefer events that could actually happen
-Yes I believe they do.
-Yes because younger people like fantasy and make believe because they have big imaginations.
-Yes, they usually have a romance element which attracts the teenage audience.
-Yes, the younger generation are more intrigued by fantasy and magic compared to the older generation.
-Yes, but can be targeted at an older audience to. My Mum and dad love harry potter!

DISAGREED:
-I think it appeals to all age groups depending on the plot and preferred genre-both really any can be accepted-all ages as fantasy films are all about fun for the family to watch.

-No old people like fantasy films to
-No, they appeal to a wide range of people not just young/teens as people may have been reading comics such as DC since they were little which will motivate older people to watch films such as Spiderman/Thor/The Avengers
